Two (2) Community Based Officers: SNV
Deadline: 1800hrs 6 July 2017
Duty station: Binga and Hwange
Type of contract: 6-month contract
Introduction
SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is an international development organization of Dutch origin with over 50 years of experience. SNV currently has a long-term, local presence in 38 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. The organisation is dedicated to a society where all people enjoy the freedom to pursue their own sustainable development. SNV’s global team of advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connections they need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development. In a world characterised by persistent poverty, but also by fast developing opportunities and increasing local capacities, a supply driven and ‘one-size-fits-all’ development strategy has become increasingly ineffective and incompatible within this context. Demand-driven approaches, carefully crafted to the local context and inspired and fed by a robust global knowledge base and evidence based advocacy are needed to address local needs and global challenges.
SNV seeks to recruit two community-based field officers for the Zimbabwe Goat Value Chain Development for Climate Resilience and Green House Gas Mitigation, a project that is being implemented in Binga and Hwange districts. The project’s goal is to improve household income security for vulnerable households in Binga and Hwange districts of Zimbabwe.
The required CBOs are expected to undertake the following tasks: Community mobilization, beneficiary selection and registration; Training of farmers in animal husbandry, crop production, climate smart agriculture and farming as a business; Organising farmers into business units; Training of farmers on Village Saving and loans; Monitoring all project activities and reporting to the project manager; Data collection of monthly sales of goats in and outside auctions; Compilation and submission of activity and progress reports; Representing SNV in all district activities
Profile of the required CBOs
For this assignment, SNV is considering candidates with the following skills/qualifications and experiences: Higher Diploma/Degree in Animal/crop production/Agribusiness, or equivalent; At least two years working in community development work in rural setup; Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage different streams of work and deadlines; A strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, energetic, resourceful, and innovative; Ability to train and manage large groups of small-scale farmers; Ability to ride a motorbike is necessary; Local candidates of the district will be preferred; Fluency in Nambia and Tonga is a prerequisite
To apply
Interested and qualified candidates should send in their detailed CV and application letters to: HRzimbabwe@snvworld.org
Please indicate your expected salary in your application letter. Candidates to indicate the position being applied for in the subject line of your email: VUNA CBO Application.
