Senior Protection Assistant: UNHCR

Organisational context
The Senior Protection Assistant reports to the Head of Field Office. He/she monitors protection standards, operational procedures and practices in protection delivery in line with international standards and provides functional protection support to information management and programme staff.

Responsibilities
Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct; Provide counselling on protection issues to persons of concern; liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documentation; Support activities in protection related AGD based programming with implementing and operational partners; Conduct preliminary information gathering and interviews in support of eligibility, status determination, durable solutions and social needs assessment; Contribute to measures to identify, prevent and reduce statelessness; Contribute to a country-level child protection plan as part of the protection strategy;

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
Education: Completion of secondary school. Additional Training courses in protection related issues required.
Job experience: relevant to the function: 4 years.
Fluency in English and working knowledge of another relevant UN language or local language.

Desirable qualifications & competencies
Completion of UNHCR learning programmes on protection would be an asset or any other equivalent external courses. Good computer skills. Previous UNHCR, NGO or international experience would be a strong asset.

2018 Zimbabwe Rhodes Scholarships
Deadline: 31 August 2017

The Rhodes Scholarships are fully funded scholarships for postgraduate study at the University of Oxford. Exceptional students with exemplary leadership qualities in their community, sport, university, arts or their field of study and who have completed an undergraduate degree with a first class degree or equivalent (GPA 3.7 or higher) - by 1 October 2018 - from a college or university in or outside of Zimbabwe are eligible to apply. Students must be less than 25 years of age by 1 October 2018 or 28 years for those with a medical degree. Students wishing to apply for the 2018 Zimbabwe Rhodes Scholarships should consult the detailed eligibility criteria and Conditions of Tenure.
