Intern - Violence against Children (VAC): UNICEF
Deadline: 15 June 2017
Job no. 505165
The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare (MoPSLSW), in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the international Donor community and civil society, developed the third phase of the National Action Plan for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (NAP III). The NAP III is a Cabinet-mandated child and social protection framework to address childhood vulnerability (including violence, exploitation and abuse, extreme poverty and the impacts of HIV/AIDS) in Zimbabwe and covers the period 2016 – 2020. To operationalise this framework, resources were mobilized under the Child Protection Fund II (CPFII) which is administered by UNICEF and funded by several donors.
The NAP III is implementing interventions which include child protection with a specific focus to end violence against children. While statistics pointed to a high prevalence of VAC, an analysis of the national case management data showed a system weakness in the identification of VAC cases. Recognizing the discrepancies between child protection needs and services helped realign programme strategy and scope to close the gap. From 2014 to 2016, data from CPF partners shows up to four-fold increases in the number of child protection cases. Overall, child protection cases still make up a minority of all cases.
Aim
Under the general guidance of Chief, Child Protection, the intern will work closely with the Child Protection Section in VAC programming, particularly violence prevention programming, which will offer a practical and hands-on learning experience for project management.
