Purpose of Role*
To fabricate, install, maintain and repair of structural steel, plate work, pipework, chutes, ducting, tanks and related infrastructure across Karo Platinum’s camp and plant. The position supports maximum plant availability, statutory compliance and zero-harm objectives through precision workmanship, proactive inspections and strict adherence to mine safety standards.
Fabrication & Installation
Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs and isometric sketches to fabricate new structural steel, plate work and pipe spools.
Cut, bend, roll, drill and assemble components
Install and align chutes, tanks, conveyors, hoppers, handrails and platforms
Execute on-site rigging, lifting and positioning of components in conjunction with the crane team.
Maintenance & Repair
Conduct planned and unplanned maintenance on crushers, mills, thickeners, flotation cells, ducting, smelter hoods and auxiliary equipment.
Perform thickness testing, crack detection and repair of worn plate work and piping.
Construction Project Support
Work within multi-disciplinary construction teams during plant maintenance and camp commissioning
Fabricate and erect temporary works, scaffolding and supports in compliance with construction drawings.
Provide accurate progress feedback to the Engineering Supervisor and participate in punch-list close-out.
Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ)
Adhere to Mining (Management and Safety) Regulations of 1990 and any other project safety specifications.
Complete daily Planned Job Observations (PJOs) lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), DSTIs and hot work permits.
Actively participate in toolbox talks, incident investigations and emergency drills.
Maintain housekeeping, material traceability and test records for audit purposes.
Wear and enforce the correct use of PPE, gas testing (where applicable), and ensure isolation.
