A Zimbabwean human rights organisation is looking for an intern to join its research team. This opportunity is open to persons who are motivated to learn and make a difference in the human rights sector in Zimbabwe.
Main duties
The ideal candidate will be responsible for: Assisting in updating the organisation's human rights database; Monitoring and reporting on human rights violations; Validation of reported human rights cases; Interviewing victims of human rights violations and documenting their cases in the database; Assist in production of human rights violations reports; Performing any other duties as requested.
Profile of the suitable candidate
Tertiary training in research, law or any relevant social sciences area; Prior work experience as an intern in a human rights organisation will be an added advantage; Keen interest in making lasting contribution.
Period of engagement
The Research Intern will be engaged for 12 months.

Role purpose

General functions

Education

Work experience

Health Research and Advocacy Officer: Zimbabwe AIDS Network (ZAN)

Job purpose
The job is in support of ZAN's strategic focus which ensures increased access to integrated Health services through increasing Civil Society (CS) engagement with policy processes, notably the national budget and external support (donor funding). The initiative entails (1) facilitating processes for CS engagement with public health policy spaces such as Provincial and District Health Committees (P/DHEs) and (2) strong component on health systems strengthening. Through the initiative ZAN will collaborate closely with the private sector, policy makers, legislators, media, donors and CS.
Basic function
The Health Research and Advocacy Officer will be the focal point for all advocacy work within ZAN. Mobilizing and organizing high level and high impact policy advocacy to influence policy processes which will result in increased access to integrated health services among citizens and improved resilient health systems.
Major activities of the job
To work closely with CS and partners to provide appropriate guidance and managerial support to implement the project in line with the project objectives and ZAN advocacy objectives; To facilitate all project activities especially those related to policy influence and advocacy, including engaging with Parliamentarians; To prepare mid-term and final reports for the project at the same time ensure narrative reporting and financial accounting meet ZAN and donor's requirements; Strengthen relations with CS, community health systems and private sector representatives to influence local and national actors in tandem with project and ZAN advocacy strategy; Contribute to fundraising and resource mobilization initiatives, including assisting in the writing of proposals to expand the initiative and support ZAN's advocacy work; Lead and facilitate relevant capacity building and support for project partners and CS based on capacity building plans; Ensure an effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning (documentation of best practices) of the project and related ZAN initiatives in the region; To compile monthly Monitoring and Evaluation report for member organizations and civil society; To provide regular feedback to the National Coordinator on activities undertaken. Education experience and key competencies
A University Qualification in Social Work, Development Studies, or any social science is a must. Objectives of the programme

Required qualifications
Education
Essential: Completion of secondary school education and technical training in electronics/telecommunications, computer sciences or any other related field.
Desirable: Microsoft trainings/certifications will be an important asset.
Experience
Essential: A minimum of eight years’ experience in IT customer services and in an IT service-desk environment.
Desirable: Experience with UN Agencies would be an added advantage.
Skills

Health Research and Advocacy Officer: Zimbabwe AIDS Network (ZAN)

Job purpose
The job is in support of ZAN's strategic focus which ensures increased access to integrated Health services through increasing Civil Society (CS) engagement with policy processes, notably the national budget and external support (donor funding). The initiative entails (1) facilitating processes for CS engagement with public health policy spaces such as Provincial and District Health Committees (P/DHEs) and (2) strong component on health systems strengthening. Through the initiative ZAN will collaborate closely with the private sector, policy makers, legislators, media, donors and CS.
Basic function
The Health Research and Advocacy Officer will be the focal point for all advocacy work within ZAN. Mobilizing and organizing high level and high impact policy advocacy to influence policy processes which will result in increased access to integrated health services among citizens and improved resilient health systems.
Major activities of the job
To work closely with CS and partners to provide appropriate guidance and managerial support to implement the project in line with the project objectives and ZAN advocacy objectives; To facilitate all project activities especially those related to policy influence and advocacy, including engaging with Parliamentarians; To prepare mid-term and final reports for the project at the same time ensure narrative reporting and financial accounting meet ZAN and donor's requirements; Strengthen relations with CS, community health systems and private sector representatives to influence local and national actors in tandem with project and ZAN advocacy strategy; Contribute to fundraising and resource mobilization initiatives, including assisting in the writing of proposals to expand the initiative and support ZAN's advocacy work; Lead and facilitate relevant capacity building and support for project partners and CS based on capacity building plans; Ensure an effective monitoring, evaluation, and learning (documentation of best practices) of the project and related ZAN initiatives in the region; To compile monthly Monitoring and Evaluation report for member organizations and civil society; To provide regular feedback to the National Coordinator on activities undertaken. This includes formal and informal discussions and well as regular reports
Education experience and key competencies
A University Qualification in Social Work, Development Studies, or any social science is a must. A Master’s Degree is an added advantage; A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a similar or related role with a strong bias on Advocacy and/ or M/E; Past working experience on health systems strengthening with a bias on engaging Health Centre Committees, Community Cadres; Understanding of policy processes in Zimbabwe especially those related to national budgeting; Strong M/E background especially understanding theories of change; Sound understanding of social accountability and social policy analysis; Experience of preparing project documentation notably internal and donor narrative and financial reports, programme updates, budgets, contracts, case studies; Experience of convening different actors, building alliances, networking around issues to deliver greater change; Experience of undertaking high level representation to influence government, donor and agency policy and practice; Experience conducting desk studies and reviews (comparative) and produce quality assessment reports; Resource mobilization skills- ability to develop winning funding proposals; Good relationship and team management skills; Excellent interpersonal skills;
