A locally based
non-governmental organisation that seeks to combat impunity and advocates
greater accountability for human rights violations is seeking the services of a
consultant to carry out an analysis of the public interest litigation
initiatives on behalf of torture victims. The analysis will focus mainly on
cases brought before the courts and assess the nature and extend of the
remedies to these victims, in particular the availability and effectiveness of
the remedies and its impact on combating impunity and ensuring accountability.
This analysis will delve into the social context of access to justice and zero
in on the inadequacies and limitations that may be present in the Zimbabwean
legal system in the broader context of impunity.
Main Objective
To conduct a comprehensive legal analysis of cases litigated on behalf of victims of torture, with the aim of assessing the extent to which this has contributed to combating impunity and ensuring greater accountability.
