Production Manager – Aquaculture – Angola
Our Client in the Agricultural Sector (Aquaculture) is looking for a Farm Manager. Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the position.
The role
To manage an intensive Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and pond catfish fish farm (production of 300 tons) located on the outskirts of Luanda in Angola.
Responsibilities
Effective management of all staff.
Implementation of financial controls, management of financial record keeping and cash management.
Planning and managing hatchery breeding programs and growing schedules.
Calculating and managing the optimal feeding regime including content of feed and frequency to obtain maximum efficiency.
Monitoring the health of the fish and treating them when appropriate.
Adhering to environmental standards.
Understanding legislation and how to implement this into practical application.
Ensuring the water supply is of a sufficient quality for the stock.
Being aware of different water management techniques.
Adapting to new technologies as they develop and learning practical skills.
Paying close attention to detail in order to avoid expensive fish losses in what can be a high risk industry.
Possessing stock skills such as fish handling, spawning, grading and harvesting.
Updating knowledge of fish health and nutrition.
Maintaining records of stocks.
Implementing, maintaining and overseeing processing and packing procedures in fish processing plant to develop and maintain HACCP compliance.
Oversee development of additional earth ponds.
Involvement and oversight of repair and maintenance of equipment and vehicles.
Qualifications & Experience
Relevant degree
At least five years’ experience in the aquaculture industry at a senior level.
Portuguese language skill would be a benefit or must learn quickly.
