AGRICULTURAL TECHNICAL SPECIALIST (CROPS AND LIVESTOCK)

Reporting to the Activity/Project Manager, the Agricultural Technical Specialist (Crops and Livestock) provides leadership and technical guidance to the field facilitators and is responsible for ensuring that activities contribute to the Program’s objectives. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Participating in the design and implementation of field-based technical assistance, trainings, and other activities as per the stated work plan.

Assist with the formation and/or support of smallholder grower groups and ensure their successful development and participation in out grower schemes or other group activities relevant to project objectives.

Providing regular weekly technical assistance visits to farmers, providing recommendations and monitoring progress.

Entering brief updates of farmer visits, trainings and other activities into the M and E data system on a weekly basis, and working with the M&E team to otherwise contribute to the monitoring and evaluation process as required.

Assist with business development activities to facilitate BDS and business training in the agriculture sector.

Developing, translating and presenting technical and promotional materials as required for farmer training courses, workshop presentations, etc.

Collaborating with government agencies, universities, research agencies, relevant donor programs, and other partners as appropriate to facilitate the agriculture program.

Providing data and materials for program reports, success stories, etc. as required.

Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the Project Manager.


 *REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES* 

Ability to work under pressure

•          Ability to work with minimum supervision

•          Ability to communicate at all levels

testing, bacterial counts, detection of pathogens and antibiotic residue testing.

• Analyse results and report any deviations from quality standards to the

Laboratory Supervisor.

• Ensure all data is compliant with industry standards and regulatory

• Prepare and submit test reports to management.

• Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), food safety standards and

follow all safety and hygiene regulations

• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure accurate

test results.

• Maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies used in the

laboratory.

• Participate in proficiency testing and external quality assessments.

• Contribute to ISO 17025 certification efforts.

• Ensure all tests comply with local regulatory standards for dairy product safety.

• Ensure proper labeling and documentation of samples to maintain traceability.

• Perform chemical, microbiological, and physical tests on milk samples,

testing, bacterial counts, detection of pathogens and antibiotic residue testing.

• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as spectrophotometers, pH

meters, and microbiological testing kits.

• Analyse results and report any deviations from quality standards to the

Laboratory Supervisor.

• Ensure all data is compliant with industry standards and regulatory

requirements.

• Prepare and submit test reports to management.

• Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs), food safety standards and

follow all safety and hygiene regulations

• Assist in the calibration and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure accurate

test results.

• Maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies used in the

laboratory.

• Participate in proficiency testing and external quality assessments.

• Contribute to ISO 17025 certification efforts.

• Ensure all tests comply with local regulatory standards for dairy product safety.

• Collaborate closely with production teams to ensure the quality of the products.

• Assist in training junior laboratory staff or interns on proper testing protocols.
